The Upper Hutt Repair Café started in 2019 with four founding members. We now have five board members and two dedicated event co-ordinators all with a passion for sustainability, waste reduction and the idea of a circular economy.
Repair Cafés reduce pressure on the planet by supporting a repair, reuse or re-purpose life cycle. Our Repair Café Events aim to recreate a culture of "repair not replace" as an experienced volunteer shares their skills and helps you to repair your items.
Our purpose is:
- To educate the public about the importance and viability of repairing, recycling, reusing, upcycling and otherwise extending the useful life of items which might otherwise be disposed of into landfill.
- To educate the public as to the technical skills necessary to achieve the above purpose.
- To alleviate poverty by assisting the public to extend the life of items that would otherwise need to be replaced.
- To provide access to tools, equipment, skills and expert knowledge to support these purposes.
Our next Repair Café event event is 16 July 2022 10am to 2pm at the Wesley Centre, 1 Benzie Avenue, Elderslea, Upper Hutt. Come on down with your items in need of repair.
