The Upper Hutt Repair Café started in 2019 with four founding members. We now have a board which meets regularly and provides governance, and a widely experienced group of volunteers who bring their skills and talent, along with a passion for sustainability, waste reduction and the ideal of a circular economy.
Repair Cafés reduce pressure on the planet by supporting a repair, reuse and re-purpose life cycle. Our Repair Café Events aim to facilitate a culture of "repair not replace" as an experienced volunteer shares their skills and helps you to repair your items.
Our purpose is:
- To educate our community about the importance and viability of repairing, recycling, reusing, upcycling and otherwise extending the useful life of items which might otherwise be disposed of into landfill.
- To educate the community around the technical skills required to achieve that.
- To alleviate poverty by enabling our community to extend the life of items that would otherwise need to be replaced.
- To provide access to tools, equipment, skills and expert knowledge.
We hold events every two months and advertise upcoming events on our Facebook page at Upper Hutt Repair Cafe Trust (Click Facebook icon below). From 1 November 2025, events will be held at Upper Hutt Baptist Church, corner Fergusson Drive and Milton Street, Trentham, Upper Hutt.
Come on down with your items in need of repair.
